The first week of June delivered a concentrated set of signals about where the GCC events industry is heading. Dubai convened its largest-ever stakeholder briefing, a new investment platform launched specifically for event businesses in the UAE, and the global Eventex Awards confirmed the region’s growing weight on the world stage. Taken together, these aren’t isolated news items – they sketch a market that is actively building its next infrastructure layer.
Dubai Sets the H2 Agenda
On 3 June, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism held its bi-annual City Briefing at Dubai Opera – and the room told its own story. More than 1,700 leaders from tourism, aviation, hospitality, retail and events attended, making it the highest-attended DET City Briefing on record.
The briefing was structured around three blocks: the coordinated industry response to recent regional developments, demonstrated resilience across the sector, and – most relevant for event professionals – a forward-looking roadmap for H2 2026.
On the events side, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) Ahmed Al Khaja confirmed that a robust calendar of flagship events and initiatives is in place for the second half of the year. The centrepiece of the summer programme is the return of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) in July, structured across three components: Entertainment Experiences, Retail Promotions, and Dining & Hospitality. New within DSS this year: the Great Dubai Summer Sale and Summer Restaurant Week. Looking further ahead, the Dubai Fitness Challenge marks its milestone 10th edition from 31 October to 29 November.
Infrastructure announcements added longer-term context. A newly approved Gold Line metro extension will deliver a 42-km underground connection across 15 districts. Al Maktoum International Airport continues its US$35 billion expansion, on course to become the world’s largest aviation hub. Both projects directly expand the city’s capacity to host large-scale business events.
The briefing made clear that Dubai is not managing a slowdown – it is using a moment of regional transition to accelerate structural investment. For planners and organisers working in the market, the message was operational: venues are open, capacities are intact, and the pipeline is full.
Engage by Elevate: B2B Trade in Action
Running in parallel with the City Briefing, the three-day Engage by Elevate 2026 summit (2–4 June, Dubai) gave a precise picture of how UAE tourism trade actually functions at the commercial level.
The summit’s framework included more than 200 hotels and experiences, over 90 tour operators, 30+ exhibitors, 40 curated one-to-one meetings, and five expert webinars. The first two days focused exclusively on UAE hotel partners – giving suppliers from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah priority access to international buyers before the programme expanded to international markets on day three.
The event also brought a notable product launch: Yara AI, a new artificial intelligence tool designed to shift tourism stakeholders from reactive to proactive engagement across the ecosystem. Additionally, Miral and Elevate World announced a major distribution partnership to boost global access to Yas Island’s hospitality and entertainment portfolio.
For MICE professionals, the model is worth noting: Engage by Elevate represents a format where destination confidence translates directly into scheduled commercial conversations, not general networking. As RAK TDA and Wynn Al Marjan Island used the platform to accelerate international trade engagement ahead of the resort’s opening, the summit demonstrated how pre-opening destinations can build distribution pipelines before the product is live.
Manta Middle East: Investment Capital Arrives in the Event Sector
The most structurally significant announcement of the week came from outside the traditional event industry calendar. On 4 June, Manta Media Capital launched Manta Middle East – a regional investment platform created specifically to invest in, launch and scale event businesses across the UAE.
The platform will operate across three areas: incubating new event concepts, accelerating existing independent organisers, and supporting established international event brands entering or expanding in the region. Its leadership team brings over 100 years of combined experience building and scaling major events.
The endorsement from Ahmed Al Khaja of DFRE was immediate and pointed, framing platforms like Manta Middle East as a reflection of the maturity of Dubai’s business ecosystem and the growing confidence that global investors place in the emirate as a base for growth and innovation.
Editorial note: Dedicated investment capital targeting the event sector specifically – not hospitality, not tourism broadly, but events – is a meaningful structural development. In mature markets like London or Singapore, event businesses attract institutional investors, PE-backed roll-ups and specialist accelerators. The emergence of a comparable vehicle in the UAE signals that the regional market has reached sufficient scale and commercial predictability to justify this kind of capital commitment. For independent organisers and founders operating in GCC, this opens a new conversation: not just how to find sponsors or venue partners, but how to think about equity, scaling and exit. The question for the sector is whether other similar vehicles will follow.
Eventex 2026: GCC Makes Its Mark
The 16th edition of Eventex Awards – the global benchmark for events and experience marketing – recorded 1,405 entries from 58 countries, another record-breaking year. For the GCC, the results deserve more than a footnote.
Qatar finished second globally by total awards, tied with Poland on 73 trophies each – a landmark result for a country that has systematically invested in events infrastructure over the past decade. The UAE led all countries in gold awards, taking 29. ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi captured five individual titles: World’s Best Sustainable Venue, World’s Best Convention Centre, World’s Best Exhibition Venue, World’s Best Sports Venue, and World’s Best Wedding Venue.
The full breakdown of GCC results across all categories will be covered in a dedicated analysis in the next issue.
